A Metamorphosis in the Making

The Zaragoza National High School was founded on July 1, 1947. It was truly an answer for a long felt need. Undoubtedly, it was one of the most visible achievements of the town’s senior citizens at that time.

It was the idealism of the group entrepreneurial, determined and dedicated civic leaders, who pooled their resources together eventually made the dream establishing a secondary school in Zaragoza in reality.

During that time, constructing even just a simple school building that will house the teachers and students during class hours was hours was already a problem. The country had just emerged from the ruins of chaotic and destructive World War II that damaged not only properties and physical beings but even that moral fibers of the most Filipino.

There stood the Zaragoza Municipal Building, the pioneer school venue with an irrefutable school administrator, Mr. Daniel Pagaduan Jr. as the principal. The initial faculty member were Engr. Ramon Belmonte who graduated from the Columbia University, U.S.A.,Mr. Romulo De Pano, proficient Filipino teacher, Mr. Gerundio Palapal, a graduate of BSA in CLAC, now the Central Luzon State University and Mrs. Aurora De Jesus who handled Home Economics subjects.

Since her founding, the Zaragoza National High School was administered by competent leaders. Mr. Daniel P. Pagaduan started as the first principal in1947 until 1972 followed by Mr. Macario S. Salvador who ascecded to office as the principal and consequently in 1984 to 1985 Mr. Emilio P. Cortez took the principal post.

Mrs. Gloria G. Gabriel was assigned as the principal in 1985 until 1990, followed by Mr. Quirino P. Guevarra Education Supervisor, who held the position as officer in charge of the school from 1990-1991. Miss Juanita T. Tomas followed the path of leadership in1991 until 1994. In the year 1995 to 1997, Mr. Macario A. Cabico handled the school administration.

The school was under the management of Mrs. Nenita E. Masibay in 1997 to 2006 and shortly for a year and two months in 2002, Mrs. Nely V. Pangilinan became the school principal. Mrs. Nenita E. Masibay returned in 2003 and continued her principalship until she past away in 2006. Mrs. Ruby S. Mendoza, princiapal IV, started grooming the school since 2006-2011.

In October 2011, Mrs. Nila E. Mactal, started to lead the school, after she was assigned by the school division superintendent as a school principal IV. Unexpectedly, she was only given a year and month being the administrator of the school after her sudden death in December 2012. In times or mourning the School stand to be strong enough to resolve problems that were existed after what happened. With the supervision of Mr. Ronilo E. Hilario EPS-1 Research assigned as school officer-in-charge for more tha a month, the school made to be united.

In January 11, 2013, the school welcomed the new School Principal, Mr. Norberto M. Calma who then promoted as principal IV. He came from Pudlod National High School where he served exemplary in managing the School for a very short time. Now evident to his dynamic managerial skills, he started programs and projects that truly leading the school towards academic, non-academic excellence.

The enrollment has increased through the years. Hence, from the municipal building, the school site was transferred from one place to another notably the first floor of the house of Engr. Roman Belmonte, Don Cirilo Acosta and Mr. Jose Bauto.

Sometime during the early fifties, Mr. Tomas Roque, with a philanthropic heart and genuine concern for the youth, he was persuaded to donate a sizable area of his landholdings at San Rafael, Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija as permanent site of the school. Moved by the triumvirate efforts of the late Mayor Francisco Custodio, Don Cirilo Acosta and Dr. Aniceto Belmonte, the community extended its broad support by successfully solicitation the aid of the government and an administrative five classroom building was built. The Zaragoza Provincial High School came into being which was then known as Zaragoza Provincial Junior High School.

On December 5, 1988., the heirs of the late Tomas Roque namely Angelina Roque Reyes amd Georgina Roque following the ideals of their forebears executed a deed of donation of about 13,440 sq.m. to the school. The present school site, now became the permanent and lasting memory of the Roque-Reyes family.

The fast growing population of the school calls the need of additional classrooms. Spearheaded by the principals during their terms together with civic spirited citizens of the town and the benevolent contributions of Alumni Class Organizations, the simple administrative classroom building grew into a school building complex as it is presently viewed.
